Obituary for Winfred Dale Ogle

In loving memory of Winfred “Dale” Ogle, age 78, of Oxford, Michigan who passed away on Sunday, December 30th, 2018. He was born and raised in Pineville, West Virginia on November 11th, 1940. He married Elaine Margaret Schnute on April 2, 1971, and they were happily married for 46 years.

Born the son of a West Virginia coal miner, Dale was proud to be the only child in a family of seven to earn his college degree. Early on Dale proudly served in the United States Army for a four year tour and then as Army Reserve. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Morris Harvey College (now Charleston University) in West Virginia, and his Master of Arts degree from Oakland University in Michigan, followed by a degree as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

For 33 years Dale taught middle school American History and English at Shelby Junior High School. During these years he was a proud coach, umpire, and referee for the school football, baseball, and volleyball teams. His love of country and American history also made him the perfect educator for leading Shelby students on the school’s annual pilgrimage to Washington DC each spring. Dale was also promoted to a school counselor for the middle school students prior to his retirement.

After retiring from teaching in 1999, Dale enjoyed a career in writing and became the proud author of two published books. Together with their son Chris, he and Elaine also founded Oakwood Research Facility 22 years ago, a company that specializes in a variety of clinical laboratory services for the medical and biotechnology industries.

Dale and Elaine enjoyed “cruising” the world in style – a total of 19 cruise vacations. He had a deep passion for writing poetry, and also loved deep sea diving, hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and of course all things U of M football! Since losing his wife in 2017, Dale considered himself blessed to find true joy again with the help of his new puppy, Bailey, and his new love Trudy. Dale and Trudy were recently engaged to be married and planned for a long and happy future together for many years to come.

He is survived by his three children: Jeffrey W (Carrie) McCreery, age 54, Pamela A McCreery (Dave Rohm), age 50 and Christopher D Ogle (Jamie Cooper), age 46. His fiancée Gertrud (Trudy) Graf. Grandchildren: Ashley R McCreery, age 24, Kaiden T Ogle, age 15, McKenzie E Ogle, age 12, and Hunter M Gohs, age 9. In-Laws: Sister In-law Shirley Gregway, Brother In-law Bill Schnute and Sister In-law Pat Schnute, Sister In-law Carol Billmeier. Dale is predeceased by his parents Winfred Levi Ogle and Shirley Ann Ogle (Riggle) and six siblings.

A funeral service and visitation will take place at Lynch and Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W Burdick St, Oxford MI, 48371. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 6th, from 1pm until 7pm. The funeral service will be Monday, January 7th, 11am, at Lynch and Sons; immediately followed by the burial, which will take place at Guardian Angel Cemetery, 4701 N Rochester Rd, Rochester, MI 48306.
