Valerie Joan Gutt, 68, of Oxford, MI, passed away on September 19, 2013 after a prolonged illness.
Valerie was born in Hamtramack, MI on November 29, 1944. She graduated from Girls Catholic Central High School (Detroit, MI) and continued to receive a Registered Nursing Certificate at Providence Nursing School (Detroit, MI). Valerie attended the University of Detroit later in her career and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Summa Cum Laude) in Health Care Administration.
She was married to Edward Gutt on April 22, 1966; they were married 47 years.
Valerie worked as a nurse for Martin Place East before accepting a job at Holy Cross Hospital (Detroit, MI) where she worked for 24 years. She began a career in nursing administration at Holy Cross Hospital, and continued in this role at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital for several years. Valerie eventually returned to patient care as a home care nurse, ending her 48 year nursing career with Beaumont Hospital Home Care. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and the quiet serenity of their property in Addison Township.
Valerie is survived by her husband, Edward; Sons Paul (Susie) and Todd (Angie); Grandchildren Hunter, Robbie, Carolyn, Casey; Sisters Diane and Arlene; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and George Pickwick.
Funeral from Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 1 PM. Family and friends may visit from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment Lakeville Cemetery in Addison Township.
