Obituary for Thomas Moenart

Thomas David Moenart, 73, of Oxford, MI, passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 2021.

He was born on March 2nd, 1948, and grew up in Saint Clair Shores on Lake St. Clair.

Tom graduated from Lake Shore High School in 1966, and was an avid baseball and hockey player throughout high school.

He continued his studies in Engineering, specifically radiology and metallurgy, at Macomb Community College and Lawrence Tech.

Thomas met Brenda Arline LaRowe, also from Saint Clair Shores, at the local drive-in A & W restaurant, and the two later married on October 10, 1969. Together they started a life in East Detroit and adopted a daughter, Julie Kathleen, in November of 1973.

Thomas worked as a Radiology Technician for a gas company before pursuing a career at Chrysler Corporation in the Mechanical Properties lab for nearly 35 years. He retired in 2005.
He was a Mopar man at heart, always donning a Hemi Cuda cap, and enjoyed watching Classic car auctions. His favorite movie was The World’s Fastest Indian and Gran Turino.

He enjoyed the quiet outdoor life, moving from Sterling Heights to Metamora in 1981, then to Oxford in 2000.

Tom’s greatest attribute was his unwavering dedication to his grandchildren, Chase Alexander and Zachary Tyler. He passed on his love for baseball onto each, rarely missing a game, and was a stabilizing presence in their lives.

Thomas is survived by his daughter Julie Kathleen Moenart, his grandchildren Chase Alexander and Zachary Tyler Moenart, his nieces Tamara Noel Swart and Kathleen Michelle Meyer, his brother-in-law William Dale Meyer, and many dear friends.

Thomas is preceded in death by his wife Brenda Arline Moenart (LaRowe), his parents Francis Moenart and Gladys Moenart (Holtz) , his brother Don Francis Moenart, and sister Marjorie Ann Swart (Moenart).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 25, between 4-8pm at Lynch & Sons, 39 West Burdick Street Oxford MI 48371.

Graveside ceremony and burial will be held on Friday, March 26 at 11am at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Oxford. Luncheon at White Horse Inn to follow.
