Obituary for Pearl Leone Hoard

Pearl Leone Hoard (Gingell) passed away on October 17, 2020, at age 96, one month short of her 97th birthday. She was born on November 30, 1923, to Elizabeth Newell Gingell and Frederick Gingell. Pearl was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, M.J. (Tim) Hoard. She leaves behind her sister, Gertrude Curtis, and was predeceased by her brothers Warren, Newell, and Lawrence Gingell. She will be missed by her two beloved sons, Thomas (Christine) Hoard, and Mark (Sandy) Hoard, and grandchildren, Beth (Scott) Bruce, Nathan (Kristen) Hoard, April (Mark) Flowers, Eric (Jennifer) Hoard, and Robert Wagnitz and family. She will be greatly missed by her great-grandchildren, Keegan Flowers, Amber Flowers, Hannah Bruce, Griffin Hoard, Kate Bruce, Brady Hoard and Cooper Hoard. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pearl grew up on a dairy farm in Metamora, Michigan. She attended school in Oxford, and graduated from there. On March 29, 1946 she married M.J. (Tim) Hoard, and together they raised their two sons. She worked for Oxford Community Schools as a cashier in food services for 28 years. The longest time of any employee. Pearl loved her family, her home, and her church, The United Methodist Church of Oxford, of which she was a devoted member since 1978. Her life was not always easy, but she persevered with a positive attitude and her beautiful smile. Pearl loved holidays and family get togethers - especially her birthday which had to be celebrated on that exact day if at all possible! Thanksgiving and Christmas were special to her and she loved them. She was a voracious reader, and the Oxford Public Library even delivered books to her during the pandemic. Pearl was also a lifelong democrat and worked the election polls for years.

Asked once if she had a hobby - and she answered “cleaning”! She did always like things neat and clean.

Pearl worked hard all her life, was very frugal, and believed in saving a dollar. She loved music and dancing. All in all - Pearl lived a good, very long life.
