John Jones, as he was known to friends, passed away on November 25, 2016, at the age of 92. Mr. Jones was born to Simeon & Glennie (Shackles) Jones on June 2, 1924 in Neeleyville, Missouri. He was one of 8 siblings. Mr. Jones is survived by siblings Evelyn Frances Cox of Pontiac, William (Suzie) Jones of Clarkston, and David Jones of Grand Blanc.
He served as a U.S. Marine during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and achieved the rank of Corporal. Later, he worked at Pontiac Motors (GM) as a die maker and worked there until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Jones married his first wife, Ollie May (“May”) in 1948 and they moved to Oxford in 1955 where he has resided ever since. May passed away in 2003, but together they raised six children, Linda (Bill) Caskey of Tennessee; Gordon (Barbara) Jones of Columbiaville; Patricia (Steve) Pasquale of Tennessee; Kevin (Marissa) Jones of Grand Blanc; Karen (Brian) Plautz of Oxford; and Marquita Albright of Lapeer. John and May also cared for many foster children during their marriage, including Bruce (Brenda) Hornberger of Mt. Morris, and Matthew (Christine) Dewan of California. Mr. Jones is also survived by his second wife, Beverly Dove Jones, whom he married in 2005, and three stepchildren, Steve (Jil) Monte, Kathleen (Vince) Mills, and Gerald (Susan) Monte, all of Oklahoma. Mr. Jones is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He was a member of Christ the King Church and an active member of the Oxford Post of the VFW. Mr. Jones will be laid to rest at Mount Hope cemetery in Lapeer.
Funeral from Christ the King Church, 1550 W. Drahner, Oxford, Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11 AM with visitation beginning at the church at 10 AM. Pastor Bob Holt officiating. Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford, Tuesday, November 29th from 2-7 PM.
