Obituary for Norm Linto

Norm Linto died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, April 6, 2019. He recently celebrated his 70th birthday. He was the son of Leo and Marjorie Ann (MacFarlane) Linto.

Norm attended Rochester High School and voluntarily served 3 years in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1967-68 and in Germany. He was assigned as a Vehicle Mechanic in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. He was awarded the following awards/decorations: Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device and Army Commendation Medal. SP4 Linto was honorably discharged in 1972. He was a member of the American Legion Post 108, a Legion Rider of Post 108 and was on the Honor Guard.

Upon returning home, he married his sweetie, Penny (Rose Mary) in 1971. They were about to celebrate 48 years of marriage together. Norm retired after a 34 year career at General Motors as an Industrial Engineer. In 1982 he enlisted with the National Guard in Lapeer and again in 2001 after the 9/11 tragedy. He was a loving husband who dedicated his life to his family. He deeply loved his wife, his children and grandchildren (and especially taking them for rides in his 1943 Ford GPW Jeep). He was generous, creative, quirky, hard-working and passionate. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren, landscaping, building, WWII military vehicles, helping his wife with quilting projects, playing euchre, coaching baseball, attending St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, sharing his political opinions with anyone who would listen, and riding his motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife Penny (Rose Mary), his two children Kerri (Linto) Smith and her husband Christian of State College, Pennsylvania and Bowen Linto and his wife Adrienne of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and four grandchildren: Hunter (11), Conner (8), Kelsie (8) and Gideon (5). He is also survived by his siblings: Linda (Linto) Johnson, Roger Linto and Brett Linto. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sherri Linto and his parents Leo and Marjorie Ann (MacFarlane) Linto.
