Obituary for Lyle John Howard

Lyle John Howard, 83 of Oxford, looking forward to being greeted by all loved ones who have gone on before, died November 30, 2017. Born February 20, 1934 to Delmar and Jennie Howard in a tenant farmhouse near St. Anne, IL. Preceded by sister Marion, brother Russell, and two infant sisters, Geraldine and Donna.

Survived by his loving wife, Sharon, precious daughters Leigh (Tony) Larose, Heidi Wyke, and son Kris. Also survived by three wonderful grandchildren, Kayla and Aaron Howard, and Brandon (Kendra) Wyke.

He worked 17 years for the Bloomfield Twp. Police Department rising to the rank of Lieutenant. One of his proudest achievements was the role he played during the 60's in the development of the County Law Enforcement Management Information System, working in conjunction with the Oakland County Data Center. He was the first officer in Oakland County to work on the system. Its humble beginnings grew into a major law enforcement tool today, and is now represented in five counties in the immediate area. It was named then as it is today and goes by CLEMIS.

He spent four years in the Navy during the Korean conflict, about half that time as a maintenance plane captain with a naval fighter squadron and toured with the squadron in the Guantanamo Bay area and the Mediterranean Sea on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea, CVA 43.

He loved hiking, having backpacked four 50 to 60 mile sections of the Appalachian Trail on four trips, bird feeding, and just about anything outdoors including fishing and hunting. His degree in English from Oakland University nudged him in the direction of wanting to write something meaningful in his lifetime. He never got around to it, but diddled a little in poetry, which he probably should have stayed away from. Since 1958 he was a member of the International Harmony Society of barbershop singers, having sung in several quartets and choruses through the years. He loved to sing for the appreciative public.
