Obituary for Leonard I. James

Leonard I. James, aka “Sawdust,” of Leonard, MI, was born in Detroit on February 13, 1941. He was carried by the angels to Heaven on December 20, 2008. He was 67. Leonard was the beloved husband of Marcy (Maddox) for 31 years.

He was the devoted father of sons, Joseph (Julie), David (Cheryl), and Dr. Gary James, D.O. (Marty), and daughter, Kelly Young (Frank) and cherished grandfather of ten grandchildren: Cody, Austin, Aron, Kaitlin, Annie, Morgan, Conner, Mackenzie, Lyndsey, and Garrett.

He is also survived by his brother Michael and sisters, Joan Weckle (David) and Rita Rawson (Bill) as well as many nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Ruth Alden.

Leonard was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the Cuban Missile Crisis (1959-1963).

He was retired from the Pontiac Division of General Motors.

Mr. James will lie in state Monday December 22 from 3-5 and 7-9 (Rosary service at 7:15 PM) at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Bossardet Chapel in Oxford. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday December 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church 715 N. Lapeer Rd in Lake Orion. Friends may gather at the church from 10 AM until time of service. Interment East Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
