Obituary for Kenneth Gabrielson

Kenneth Fredric Gabrielson (Gabe), age 89 of Oxford and formerly of Warren, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 3, 2022. He was born June 19, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Trygve and Mary (Larson) Gabrielson.

After graduating from Detroit Eastern High School he worked for Twin Pines Dairy as a milkman. On April 22, 1952 he entered the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While in the service he attended Syracuse University. He then "secretly" married Ruth Wilson on June 6th, 1953. They had to keep it a secret because Ruth was in nursing school, and at that time marriage was not allowed. He was then deployed to Japan where he worked in intelligence intercepting and translating radio transmissions from the enemy. After being discharged on April 21, 1956, Ken worked for Thompson Engineering as a draftsman before joining The Budd Co. where he retired in 1987 as a Senior Project Engineer. He was an active man, especially in his teens through his fifties. He was an avid golfer and bowler who also enjoyed volleyball, softball, swimming, and track and field, winning many awards and trophies. He was a lifetime member of American Turners, Detroit and American Legion, Post 4 in Mt. Clemens.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth (Wilson) Gabrielson, son Kenneth, and sister Karen Salzman. He is survived by his children Diane (Dennis) Burgess, Thomas (Nancy) Gabrielson, and Carolyn (Glen) Burgess; grandchildren Kari, Cassie, Jake, Kaili, Rachel, Ian, and Brooke; great-grandchildren Madeline, Tristan, Wallace, Paxton, and Theodore; and his brother Carl (Gladys) Gabrielson along with many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements for cremation entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, Oxford. A memorial celebration of Ken's life and internment at Great Lakes National cemetery, Holly will be held at a later date.
