Obituary for Keith Andrew Poulson

Keith Andrew Poulson, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 in Pontiac, Mich. He was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Oil City, Pa., the son of Lorenzo and Gertrude (Slater) Poulson.

He and his wife, Kathryn, lived in Oxford for 50 years.

Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942, rising to the rank of staff sergeant and serving as a B-24 flight engineer before his discharge in 1946. He attended Gannon College in Erie, Pa. before transferring to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., where he graduated in 1949.

He taught in the Mount Morris and Chelsea school systems in Michigan before becoming an administrator at Camp Oakland in Oxford. He retired in 1979 from Clarkston Community Schools.

He was a longtime active member of the Immanuel Congregational Church in Oxford, an ardent Spartan fan and an avid aviation buff. He enjoyed woodworking and camping with his family. Upon Kathryn’s retirement, the couple traveled extensively in Europe. During retirement he volunteered at the Selfridge Military Air Museum.

He is preceded in death by a brother, H. David Poulson, and two sisters, Sylvia Kress and Jeanne Brooks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathryn; children, Celeste (Rick) Beroza of Brea, Calif., David (Kris) Poulson of DeWitt, Mich., Denise (James) Norman of Orion, Mich., Lisa (Darrin) Thomas, of Orion, Mich.; brothers, Walter Poulson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and George Poulson of Lawrence Park, Pa; sister, Lorraine Hartzell of Lawrence Park, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lynch & Sons Funeral Home-Bossardet Chapel in Oxford, 39 W. Burdick St. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment is at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Oxford.
