Obituary for Joanne Muriel Bellairs

Joanne Muriel Bellairs, age 78 of Oxford, passed away peacefully at her lakefront home surrounded by her daughter Karen and her son Michael, June 27, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late William Earle Bellairs of over 40 wonderful years. Dear mother of Karen Raczka of Oxford, Cheryl (Curt) Wright of Oxford, Michael Greene of Cincinnati, Ohio, David (JoAnn) Greene of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Step-mother of William (Sue) Bellairs Jr. of Oxford, Herbert Bellairs of Australia, and Michael (Lucinda) Bellairs of Oxford.

Loving daughter of the late Harold and Hilda Holmes of Oxford. Dear sister of the late Marion Flemming of Harbor Springs. Grandmother of 11: Kyle, Kara, Courtney, Matthew, Andrew, Hannah, Pam, Aimee, Cindy, Katie, and Lizzy. Great-grandmother of 7, and also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joanne was born in Detroit on July 13, 1930 and moved from Rochester to Oxford in 1964. She helped her husband Bill with their Standard Service Station in Oxford and made sure the boys washed the windshields while pumping their gas. Joanne loved living on Clear Lake in Oxford, she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends there. She and Bill enjoyed traveling, especially to Sanibel Island, Florida with their friends. Through her life she always loved her kitties and summer flowers. Joanne will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, U of M, Room 3D05, 300 N. Ingalls, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-5489. A graveside service will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 1:00 PM. Duane Salswedel will be officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Bossardet Chapel, Oxford.
