Obituary for James Miller

James Edison “Jim” Miller, age 89, of Oxford MI passed away on October 1, 2018. Lovingly known as Gaga to those closest to him. Jim was born and raised in Royal Oak, MI. After 40 years of service he retired from the United States Postal Service as the Sectional Center Manager in Royal Oak, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Emma Miller, his brother Lewis Miller, and his sister Lorena Sonnenberg. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Shirley; his daughter Christine (Byron) Hanson; his grandson Justin (Shannon) Hanson; his granddaughter Janelle (Eric) Bojonell; his three step-grandchildren Lisa (Joe) Progar, Michael Hanson, Christian (Cathy) Hanson; and eleven loving great-grandchildren, Riayn Hanson, Preslea Hanson, Ariana Bojonell, Jordan Progar, Colin (Casey) Progar, Madison (Brandon) Ray, Mason Progar, Ashley Bradford, Emma Hanson, Lindsay Hanson, and Nathan Hanson.

Jim and Shirley married on September 2, 1950. Theirs was the greatest of all love stories and an example to all those who knew them. They enjoyed many activities together, whether it was playing cards with friends and family, traveling, motorcycling, boating or snowmobiling, they could always be found together. In their retirement years they would spend the winter months in Clearwater, FL.

Jim was a member of Woodside Bible Church for 30 years. He was a man of integrity with a strong faith in God. He was a loving husband, father, Gaga, son, brother, uncle and friend. Jim was an avid golfer, pool player, and radio-controlled airplane enthusiast both building and flying them. He enjoyed being on his boat waterskiing or fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will take place at Woodside Bible Church – Lake Orion Campus, 2500 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI 48360 on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 4:00 PM with visitation beginning at 3:30 PM.
