Obituary for Harold "Fred" Butler

Harold Frederick Butler, “Fred”, age 82 of Oxford, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at McLaren Oakland Hospital. Fred was born September 3, 1939 to Byron and Lois (Huff) Butler, one of seven children. He was a 1957 graduate of Oxford High School. On April 19, 1963 Fred married Janet Klauka. Fred was called to active duty in the United States Army in June 1963 and served until June 1965, stationed mainly in Germany.

He retired in 1996 from maintenance for Little Caesars Pizza International.

Fred was a member of the Oxford Free Methodist Church for over 60 years. He accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was a teen. Fred loved sharing his faith and helping anyone who had a need.

Fred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet; his sons, Gary (Jaci) Butler and Joel Butler; his grandchildren, Tiffany (Tom) Coverly, Todd (Amanda) Butler; his great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler and Annika (Theisen) Coverly, Savannah and Grace Butler; his siblings, Beverly Hill, Mary Cruff, Donna Miller, Jim (Tina) Butler, Barbara Harden, and Beth DeMaria; half siblings, Glen Empson Jr., Issac Butler, Daniel (Myra) Butler, Phillip Butler, Melanie Gill and Amber Butler; his step-sister, Lila (Empson) (Russ) Wavering; his sisters-in-law, Cynthia Butler, Virginia Adamic, Doris Nellenbach and Norma Smith; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Lois (Butler) Empson; step-father, Glen Empson; step-mothers, Thelma Butler and Jean Butler; half-sister, Lou Ann Butler; half-brother, Richard Butler; brothers-in-law, Curt Cruff, Earl Miller, Bill Harden, Frank DeMaria, John Adamic, John Nellenbach, and Philip Smith.

Visitation will take place at the Oxford Free Methodist Church, 790 S Lapeer Rd, Oxford, on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10-11 AM with a funeral service with military honors beginning at 11 AM. Pastor Rob Johnson will officiate. A luncheon at the church will follow immediately after the service. Private family interment at Christian Memorial Cemetery in Rochester.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association and Integrity International on Facebook for water well drilling.
