Gwendolyn Ann Brown departed this world for heaven, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Gwen was born to Floyd and Alberta Brown in National City, MI. She attended Whittemore High School. Gwen lived in Orion, MI – better known as Gingellville – where she raised her three children with her first husband. She also lived up north for many years in Lupton where she took care of one of her granddaughters. In 2013, she sold her house and moved to Oxford to be closer to her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Schroeder, her brother, Dale (Barb) Brown, grandchildren, Samantha (Cecil) McSwain, Rhondalyn Schroeder, and Kasee Manly, and great-grandchildren, Braileigh and Trey, her special niece Tara (John) Moore, and grandnephew Drew. She is preceded in death by both parents, her son, Rodney Schroeder, her daughter, Tammy Schroeder, and sister, Jacqueline Brown. She is also survived by her nephew, Howard Brown, and many more nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. She is also predeceased by her beloved dogs, Benji and Lilly.
Gwen collected angels and loved to paint in her spare time. She was a member of American Legion Post 380 in Skidway Lake where she enjoyed making pasties, a member of the Red Hats (her favorite color was red, she absolutely loved that color), and a member of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ in Oxford.
In the late 1960’s, she worked in the lunchroom at Proper School and she was also a Brownie leader. She went on to work at various Lake Orion schools and retired as a Teacher’s Aide in 2001. She was known as a kind and caring person to all the middle school students who still remember her to this day. In the late 1990's while she was in her 50s, she bravely fought breast cancer and was a proud breast cancer survivor. Her life was not always easy, especially suffering the loss of two of her children, but she persevered with her faith in God.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Church in Oxford on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon.
