Gertrude “Gerty” Willobee Stewart, the youngest of ten children, was born September 2, 1918 and was a lifelong resident of Oxford, MI. She married Edward J. Stewart in 1936. For over 72 years they lived happily together. Edward was her only love, soul mate and life companion. They were truly “two souls – one life”. When he left us for heaven on January 3, 2009, her heart left with him and she just could not continue on this earth without him. She has asked him to “save her place” and she joined him in Glory on January 13, 2009, passing peacefully surrounded by her family.
Gerty was a published poet, who was known for her wonderful sense of humor and her love of music which she shared abundantly. Her world was filled with love, and giving spirit, and pride in her children. She focused her life on her husband, family, church and community and always sought to be a Christ like example. She will be welcomed into His arms in Heaven and be forever loved and missed by all those she touched.
She is survived by her children & their spouses: Gary Edward Stewart (Darlene), Judy Stewart Morris (John), Mary Stewart Sprague (Aaron J.), Margaret Stewart Johnson, & Jayne Marie Stewart. 15 Grandchildren: 25 Great-Grandchildren: and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
A Memorial Celebration for both Ed and Gerty will be held at 11:00 AM on February 14, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, 255 E. Scripps Rd., Lake Orion, MI 48360. Arrangements entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Bossardet Chapel, Oxford, MI. Memorial donations to the First Baptist Church of Lake Orion or Mercy Hospice (formerly Cranbrook Hospice Care), 281 Enterprise Court, Suite 200 Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302 are greatly appreciated.
