Frederick “Fred” Charles Brecht III of Metamora, passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2015. He was born March 18, 1965 (50) in Lapeer, MI to Frederick Charles Jr. and the late Patricia Brecht. Frederick is survived by his wife Debra, father Frederick Charles Brecht Jr., sisters LorEna (Jamie) and Rhonda Brecht. Nephews Justin, Alec, Joseph, Jesse, Jeffery and Chase. Nieces: Alyssa, Mariah, Alexandria and Amanda. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother Jeffrey Brecht. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances who had a profound respect for him.
Fred grew up and went to school in Oxford, MI. In his teen years he was well known for driving what I believe was the only General Lee car in Oakland County, maybe even the state of Michigan? In casual conversations all you had to say was, “you know, that guy who drives the General Lee....” and immediately most locals would know whom you were speaking of. During the last decade of his life he worked at Oxford Hardware; he was the “guy in back” who repaired all the power equipment and made home visits to work on generators. He was deeply respected for his reputation of having a vast knowledge of anything and everything mechanical; he was one of the most reliable and honest men you could ever meet.
Fred was a man with rare integrity and sincerity. Since his death, a close friend of his shared that knowing Fred made him a better man. This a testament to who Fred was, someone you could trust without question. How he passed away is an affirmation of his admirable work ethic. He had been experiencing a lot of pain for the last month of his life. After receiving the abnormal results of a routine ultrasound on Wednesday, he continued to work through Thursday in intense pain. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday and passed away the following Thursday. He is, and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Oxford, MI. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 21st at 7:00 PM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home. Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
