Fred A. Stayhue, Jr., 81, of Oxford, Michigan, died at home on December 14, 2013.
He was born on February 8, 1932, in Pontiac, to Fred and Emma (Nichols) Stayhue. Fred married Elizabeth Sebert on September 20, 1958.
Fred graduated from Imlay City High School Class of 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in combat. Fred retired in April of 1992 from Pontiac Manufacturing Operations after 30 years of General Motors service. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed spending time with family at his cabin in Hillman. Annual fishing trips to northern Canada with friends were also very special to him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty; daughter Debra (Kenneth) Stuart of Davison; sons Carl (Devon) Stayhue of Gladwin and Philip Stayhue of Oxford; granddaughter, Courtney Stayhue of Fenton; grandsons, Travis Stayhue of Fenton, Thomas Stuart of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Jonathan Stuart of Atlanta, Ga.
He was preceded in death by parents Fred and Emma Stayhue; sisters Doris Creger, Harriett Talmage, and Vivian Stayhue.
A memorial service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford, on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 5 PM conducted by Reverend Kerry Jahn. Visitation will begin Saturday at 1 PM and go until the time of service. Interment of cremated remains will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a date and time to be determined later in the spring.
