Obituary for Floyd Henry Sczepanski

Floyd Henry Sczepanski, age 92, of Midland, Michigan, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015. He leaves behind his daughters, Julie Eliason of Royal Oak, MI; Carol Catalano of Tulsa, OK; Cathy Campau of Wilmington, NC and Mary Forte of Oxford, MI. Floyd had 16 grand-children and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daugther Margaret; his brothers Al, Bernie, Franny, Joe and Danny; his sister Virginia; and his father and mother, Robert and Mary Sczepanski.

Floyd was born in Bay County, MI on April 26, 1922. He graduated from Midland High School in 1940 and then went to work for the Dow Chemical Company. Floyd worked his way up through the company to the position of Superintendent of Operations for COBA. He retired from Dow in 1980 after 40 years of service. During this time, Floyd also taught at Delta College and was instrumental in writing Refrigeration and Air Conditioning courses for Delta College and General Motors.

While living in Midland, Floyd enjoyed working for his church, Blessed Sacrament, as well as gardening, golfing, bowling and playing euchre with his brothers-in-law. After retirement, he bought old homes and restored them. He also worked part time for Wenzel's Hardware in Midland.

During WWII, Floyd served in the United States Coast Guard as a Gunners Mate in the South and South West Pacific. We was wounded in battle and awarded a Purple Heart, along with numerous other medals. After 3 1/2 years he received and honorable discharge.

For the past year, Floyd had been residing at Campbell's Personal Care Home. While there, he was cared for by the manger, Dawn, and the staff, Deanna, Shannon, Stacey, Sue and Trish.

He will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, his sense of humor, and his ability to build a house from the ground up.

Arrangements for cremation entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, Oxford. No public services are scheduled.
