Obituary for Eugene Reed

Eugene Reed, 88 of Grand Blanc, Michigan passed away on February 15, 2020 at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. He proudly served 2 years in the United States Army and 6 years in the United States Army Reserves. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He retired from General Motors in 1990 after 25 years of service. He was known for being a hard and dedicated worker with exemplary attendance. During his 30 years of retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, being outdoors, traveling and building bird houses.

His parents were Wylie Blackburn Reed and Cleo Loudermilk Reed. He was preceded in death by his brothers; Wiley, Harley, Marvin, Carl, Dathan, Wilfred, Lloyd and Enos; Sisters, Virginia and Clara; Daughter, Cheryl Lynn Nowe; and Grandson, Aaron McGuire.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Della Jean (Jones) Reed; daughter Naomi (John) Rutherford, Sons; Gary (Amy) Reed and Gregory Reed, and Son-in-law Patrick Nowe. He was a loving grandfather to Katina Dodd, Aaron McGuire, Crystal Rutherford, Megan Nowe and Lauren Nowe and Great Granddaughter Victoria Dodd. Siblings remaining to mourn his passing are Billy (Kitty) Reed, Maynard (Barbara) Reed, Deloris (Mac) McKenny, and Richard Reed. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, as well as many other loving family members and close friends.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Eugene will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 21,2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5251 Robert C Byrd Drive, Beckley, WV 25801. The family will receive relatives and friends preceding the service from 11:00 AM until 1:00pm.
