Obituary for Elizabeth H. Jones

Elizabeth (Liz) H. Jones of Oxford was born on November 6, 1935 to Alvin and Barbara (Buechler) Scheuerlein. She died April 28, 2014 at the age of 78.

Liz was married to Donald P. Jones on October 5, 1957 until his death on October 4, 2003. She is the beloved mother of Martin (Darlene) Jones of Columbiaville, Laura (Jim) Murphy of Oxford, Bradley (Paula) Jones of Imlay City, Barbara Jones of Oxford, Carol (Dan) Acton of Lapeer, and Karen (Steve) Collier of Oxford. Sister of Bernice Hinz of Mayville and Arthur Scheuerlein (deceased). Grandmother of Amanda Sandusky and Erin Jones Frasle of Lapeer, Mike Murphy of Oxford, Mitchell, Cole and Kyle Acton of Lapeer, Ryan and Cody Collier of Oxford, Kaitlyn and Jacob Jones of Imlay City. Predeceased by two grandsons, Travis Daniel Acton and Joel Randall Murphy.

Liz lived her entire life in Oxford, Michigan. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1953. She worked her early years at Cadillac Market in Oxford, raised her children, then went to work at the Ortonville Post Office as a rural carrier until her retirement in 1997.

Liz was a member of both Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Oxford as well as Good Shepherd Lutheran in Lake Orion. She loved singing in the church choir whenever her health afforded her the pleasure. She also enjoyed helping with the monthly newsletter mailing at the church. After Donald's death, she joined the Church Street Singers, a group of senior citizens who entertain in nursing homes and retirement villages. It says in her high school yearbook, when she graduated, that she would one day be singing bass in a barber shop quartet. That is exactly what she did, and she loved it so. Harmony!! She enjoyed her harmony in her music, her marriage, and as being a mother of a large family.

Funeral from Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Oxford, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11AM. Rev. Michael P. Schultz officiating along with Great-nephew Matthew Woods. Interment Oxford Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Lynch and Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford from 3-7 PM and Thursday at 10 AM at the church. The family kindly welcomes donations to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
