Obituary for Dorothy E. Murmyluk

Dorothy Edith Clark Murmyluk, age 85, passed away March 21, 2018.

Dorothy grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana. Growing up, she spent time at "The Farm", and with her horse. Dorothy often opted to ride her horse, rather than learn to fly an airplane with her mom and brother. She graduated from Valparaiso High School, and went on to Northwestern University.

Dorothy and her husband, Babe, built a house and barn in Chesterfield, Michigan. She taught orchestra until her first child, Karen was born-a little early due to her moving band equipment. She made her home a place to provide her family with things she was passionate about.

Dorothy passed her love of animals to her children. She raised and showed both dogs and horses, and involved her children and even her grandchildren in this passion. In addition to training and showing dogs, she worked in the office at K9 Workshop and taught obedience classes. Dorothy also brought her certified therapy dog to the Chesterfield Library to read to children, as well as the convalescent home to visit residents.

Dorothy taught oboe and bassoon lessons, and encouraged her children to each play an instrument. She (and Karen occasionally) played with the St. Beade's Players in their Gilbert & Sullivan musicals. She played music at the Faith United Methodist Church, and sang at both Faith and Oxford United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing her clarinet with family, and bells with the bell choir.

Dorothy was initiated into PEO in 1964, as a third generation member. She was active in Chapter DY, and later enjoyed meeting with PEO sisters in Chapter DX, beginning in 2016. She enjoyed reading and was a Friend of the Library in Chesterfield. Dorothy always had a good book to share with others. She also enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and vegetables. She canned or froze her crop of vegetables, often ending up with a freezer full every summer. She also prepared jams and jellies from her grape vines and fruit trees.

After moving to the Oxford area, Dorothy began volunteering at a local bakery-Heavenly Cake Balls. She enjoyed her time with both of her church families, and enjoyed singing to the Lord. We rest assured that she has now gone to be with her Lord.

Funeral from Oxford United Methodist Church, 21 E. Burdick St. Oxford, Friday, March 30, 2018 at 11 AM. Visitation at the church begins at 10 AM. Rev. Jennifer Jue officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the General Fund at either Oxford United Methodist Church, or Faith United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, MI.
