Obituary for Doris Suzanne Stilwell

Born in Imlay City, Michigan September 7, 1933, Doris Suzanne Stilwell left her earthly home to join our Heavenly Father in eternity on February 4, 2014.

Sue was a 1951 Oxford High School graduate who worked as a typesetter and proof-reader for publications such as the Pontiac Press, Oakland Press, and Oxford Leader.

Daughter of Arthur and Louella Stammann, sister of Roberta (Harrison), Sue married Charles Stilwell on February 26, 1955. “Charlie” built a wonderful house in Oxford, Michigan, which they moved into in 1958 a few months after the birth of the first of their three children. Sue proceeded to turn that house into a home filled with warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.

Sue was a gifted singer who enjoyed sharing that gift in the Holy Cross Lutheran Church choir. She was also an avid reader who enjoyed her duties as secretary of the Oxford Library. She enjoyed golf, and was passionate about quilting and cooking. She enjoyed the wonder and beauty of nature, especially the birds she fed and watched from her sun porch every day. She was cheerful, full of life and good fun. She looked forward to her workouts at the gym and gathering with friends and family.

She was a staunch supporter of those she held dear and the kindest, most humble and selfless person, always putting others’ needs and wants before her own. Her faith was unwavering and her ability to see and nurture the good in others, even during the most difficult times, was unsurpassed.

Sue will be missed more than words could ever describe, especially by her loving husband Charlie, daughter Holly, sons Lee (Colleen) and Tracy, sister Bobbi, granddaughter Andrea (Lighthill), and great granddaughter Avery.

A memorial service will take place at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 136 S. Washington, Oxford, Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11 AM with gathering beginning at the church at 10 AM. Arrangements entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, Oxford.
