Donald Roy Lyon, born 02/06/1929, grew up in the Detroit area. He joined the Merchant Marines and served in the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War. After the Air Force, he joined the Detroit Fire Department and was a member for 36 years rising through the ranks to Battalion Chief.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sharon (affectionately known as Sophie), and five children, Donald Lyon, Jr (Alice), Douglas Lyon (Debbie), Sandra Whitten (Robert), Sheryl Burke (Michael) and David Lyon (Daisy). He also is survived by 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Luther Church, 136 S. Washington, Oxford on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10:30 AM with a luncheon to follow at Boulder Pointe Golf Club, 1 Champions Circle, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, Don was a true dog lover and any donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society or Leader Dogs for the Blind.
