Debra Kay Sherrod Johnson
August 30, 1954—October 11, 2013
Deb was the oldest child of Robert Sherrod Sr & his late wife Theresa. Deb is survived by her three younger brothers, Mark (Tamera), Rob Jr (Kathy) & Dwayne (Phyllis). Born on August 30, 1954 in Pontiac, MI. Deb has lived in several cities including Pontiac, MI; Marion, IN; Oxford, MI; and Houston, TX. She most recently lived in Metamora, Michigan with her husband of 38 years, Lawrence Johnson.
Deb is survived by her 5 grown children, Terésa (Jim) McQueen, Derek (Kristina) Johnson, Lorie (Michael) Chambers, Shawn Autrey & Angie (Bryant) Brown. She has 12.5 grandchildren (Poe, Clay, Ty, Alyssa, Ashlynn, Austin, Shelby, Paul, LeeAnn, Luke, Landon, Lana & Leo coming soon) & 4.5 great-grandchildren (Kadence, Cam, Kip, Whitney).
Deb’s first priority was to her family. She was dedicated to their success and believed that they have the ability and responsibility to make a positive impact whenever possible. She was dedicated to sharing in their lives and happiness.
Years of marriage taught Deb a lifetime of lessons and provided her an eternity of happiness. She had a special smile and laugh that only came out for her husband. They showed their love for each other in words, touch, and acts of kindness. They taught their children to show their love and be proud of it. Nothing made her smile more than her grandchildren.
Deb had multiple jobs in her life…but her life’s work was as a caregiver. Deb gave of herself to help others because that is who she was. She believed that if she had the ability to help someone that it was her responsibility to do so, and she did. This world was a better place with Deb in it.
Deb was mature beyond her years at a very young age, often taking on responsibility without thought. She believed she could do anything and she lived her life demonstrating that passion. No one taught Deb to be independent and strong, that’s just who she was. She will be remembered as a warm, compassionate and vibrant woman who always went out of her way to help others – no matter what.
Many of you have been praying for Deb since her first diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in April of 2005. We would like to thank all of you for all of your thoughts, well wishes, positive energy & heart-felt prayers. They are always much appreciated. Thank you for being a part of Deb’s life and our family.
Deb has impacted lives of countless people and wanted to make people’s lives easier by sharing the life lessons she knew. Please Celebrate her life by taking this opportunity to pass along something from her or by sharing your favorite Deb story.
