Obituary for Claudia Richards

Claudia Jean ( Kaddatz) Richards age 69
Entrance August 15, 1952 Charlevoix, Michigan
Exit February 18, 2022 Lake Orion. Michigan

Cherished and adored mom of Jessica (Adam) Woodward. Proud gramma of Emma, Mazie, Simon, Sebastian, Nitto and Tonka. Daughter of Shirley Kaddatz and Art Ingalls and adopted later by Claude Kaddatz. Sister of Dan L. Kaddatz and the deeply missed Michael A Kaddatz. Granddaughter of Hazel and Dale Haffner, great-grand daughter of Lorna and Clifford Ingalls. Cousin of Jeff Zemla and Jamie (Dave) Kling, niece of Sue and Tom Zemla and Emerald and Ione Sheldon, aunt of Danielle and Aaron Kaddatz of Bradenton FL, great-aunt to Dominic

Claudia grew up in Lake Orion after she married my dad Dan. Almost immediately after getting married, my parents moved to Germany as my dad was drafted during the Vietnam War. After serving our country, they returned to Lake Orion. Mom had a few jobs but very much loved the 17 years she worked as a bus driver for Lake Orion Schools. It is my understanding the she was "the cool bus driver " and well liked by the kids on her bus.

After I was born and diagnosed with ADD, she relentlessly advocated for me to get the help and tools I needed in school to thrive. She had my back and always made sure I knew I was loved and accepted for who I am. During the last few weeks, I reminded her of all the times she was there for me when I needed her. Especially the time she went above and beyond standing in line in the early morning hrs to get me mosh pit tickets to see White Zombie and the Ramones.

In her time away from work, she loved to read, listen to classic rock, admire nature and work in her flower and vegetable gardens. Mom also had a huge soft spot for all animals. Claudia never hesitated to do everything she could when it came to helping animals great and small. We often traveled back to Charlavoix, Petoskey and East Jordan during the summers where we visted my gramma Lorna, hunted for Petoskey stones and watched the sunsets.

My Mom didn't always live a life that others understood or agreed with but she was a fierce woman. She had more grit and courage than anyone Ive ever known. As beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Claudia was an fighter and made one hell of a come back in life despite many, many obstacles. I thoroughly admired her strength and perseverance. Her cynical sense of humor and sarcasm will truly be missed and was very much alive to the bitter end.

Mom's death is leaving a massive void in the hearts of her family and friends. We are asking that donations be made to animal rescues, rehabilitators, and sanctuaries in her name.
