Catherine (affectionately known as “Kitty”) went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 12, 2016, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her beloved children around her bedside. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Bert Nedervelt; her five older siblings, Bill, Jim, Charlie, Ester, and Mary, and her great-granddaughter, Addisyn Davidson.
Catherine is survived and will be greatly missed, by her six children: Janet (Gary) Johns, Diane (Jeff) Davidson, David Nedervelt, Linda (Jeff) Allen, Brian (Barbara) Nedervelt and Carol (Jim) Kessler. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In her younger years, Catherine loved playing all kinds of cards (especially bridge), as well as bowling, garage "sale"ing and working on funeral dinners at St. Joseph Catholic church. In her more recent years, she was an avid reader who loved her mystery books, enjoyed playing bingo, going to her gym and LOVED watching the Detroit Tigers. She also loved the family tradition of playing “Chase-the-Ace” with all the kids at family gatherings.
Catherine will most assuredly be remembered as a “trooper”… a real SURVIVOR, in the truest sense of the word. She was strong-willed, yet very compassionate. She was always there for anyone in a time of need. Some would say “she was certainly a character”. She was an intelligent woman and will be remembered fondly by her children for her good home-cooked meals and how she treated her husband “like a king”.
