Obituary for Carl Christian Steensma

Carl “Chris” C. Steensma, 78, was a lifetime Metamora resident and truly a legend. He passed away in the comfort of his home, on his hill, Sunday October 18th. From the day Chris was born he was always on the move and lived a very unique life.

He was born on February 18th, 1942 in Sydney, Australia. At that time, his mother Viola Steensma (Hammond) was abroad with his father Romke Steensma during WWII. His father born in Holland, was in the Dutch Royal Air Force and his mother, born in Detroit was a renowned horse woman.

Being born into a family of horse enthusiasts it was natural for him to have a great love for them. Chris worked as a truck driver and did excavation for many years. He was never afraid to get his hands dirty and had the biggest heart. Chris would help anyone who needed it. He loved his dogs, adventure, airplanes, tinkering with his binder-twine and duct tape, machinery, dynamite, whiskey and egg nog, hunting, nature, gardening, parades, the balloon festival, and especially sunsets from his balcony. If there was ever a party Chris was always there. Most of all he loved his girls.

Survived by his four daughters and one son. Amy (Bob) Franey, Chrystal (Nathan) Willing, Amanda (Dan) Nelder, Shannon (Ryan) Steensma and Romke Mersino. Many Grandchildren, Sarah and Brenden (Amy) Kyra, Jayden, Adriana (Chrystal) Timothy, Patrick, Samuel (Amanda) Ethan and Lana (Shannon) Romke, Rowley, and Rusty (Romke). Also his best companion Jagger Dog, best friend/ hunting buddy Jerry K, many friends, family, and Kim who always had a special place in his heart.

Cremation is entrusted to Lynch and Sons of Oxford.

A celebration of life will take place at The American Legion in Oxford at 2:00 on November 1st.

In Lieu of flowers Memorial donations can be made to the family. Thank you and Tally-ho!
