Obituary for Arturo Garcia Martinez

Arturo Garcia Martinez, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, passed suddenly at home in Oxford, Michigan, on April 23, 2021. He was 82 years old.

“Art,” as he was known to family and friends, was born in San Antonio, TX. He grew up in Pontiac, where he graduated from Pontiac Central HS. He studied architecture and technical drawing at Lawrence Tech, and served honorably in the United States Army. He worked at the Truck and Bus Division of General Motors for nearly four decades.

Art married the love of his life, his beloved wife Jeanette (“Jan”), in 1961. They raised three daughters in Clarkston and relocated to Oxford in 2001. Art took great pride in his house and grounds, sharing his talents for home design, construction and craftsmanship with his family, helping anyone who showed a need or opportunity to make their home more beautiful. He travelled throughout Europe, and spent his retirement years travelling across the country to spend time with family in the Southwest, New England, and throughout the country. Art and Jan treasured their children and grandchildren, and were very active in all of their lives. Art also enjoyed driving his vintage Corvette, volunteering at church, and spending time with his broad circle of friends.

Art was predeceased by his wife Jeanette (Villa) Martinez, and his parents Hilario and Guadalupe Martinez. He is survived by daughters Debra Martinez of Tucson, AZ, Toni Williams of Oxford, and Corina Martinez of Cohasset, MA, his brother Gilbert and sister Gloria and cherished nieces and nephews, and beloved grandchildren Taylor Williams, Andrew Hoadley and Nicholas Hoadley.
