Andrew Shaw age 89 of Onaway, MI, born September 20, 1920 in Larkhall, Scotland, died December 2, 2009 in Rochester.
Andrew was preceded in death in 1997 by his beloved wife of over forty years Janet Belle (nee. Ulrich) Shaw and in 1983 by his son Stewart Shaw.
Andrew is survived by his son Bruce (Linda) Shaw of Leonard, MI and his daughter Wendy Shaw who resides in Lauderhill, Florida; his granddaughters Angela (Jeff) Powers and Megan (Jeff) Bishop; and his great-grandchildren Seth Powers and Haley Bishop.
Mr. Shaw was one of nine children, survived only by his sister Nancy of California and preceded in death by his seven other brothers and sisters.
As a young man Andrew joined the Navy and served during WWII helping with search and rescue. He spoke to his family about all the many different ports he saw all around the world.
Andrew worked as a bellhop at the former Statler Hotel in Detroit and in later years spoke to his family about the many movie stars he met during his employment. More importantly, it was through this job that he met his wife Janet Belle who worked at the hotel as a secretary.
Mr. Shaw worked as an accountant for Ford commercial credit and later for 12 years for Chrysler commercial credit. When he retired from accounting he ran the 211 Outpost general store on Black Lake at the Onaway State Park for 20 years and was a proud member of the Onaway Chapter of Masons. He was also known as an avid bow and rifle hunter.
A memorial gathering will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Bossardet Chapel, Oxford, Saturday December 12, 2009 from 2-4 PM.. Memorials in Andrew's memory may be made to Odyssey Hospice Odyssey Hospice (26111 Evergreen, Suite 303, Southfield, MI 48076).
