Obituary for Alvin W. Shankle

Alvin Wallace Shankle, age 87, April 28, 2018. Alvin was in his new home in Oxford, MI surrounded by family when he passed away. After retiring as a welder from the Ford Romeo Tractor Plant he and his wife Lois moved from Madison Heights, MI to St. Helen, MI. They resided there for 32 years before relocating to Oxford to be closer to family.

Alvin was born to Ford and Grace Shankle in Indiana, PA on May 29, 1930. He was born into a family of two sisters: Mary Jane and Mildred; and one brother: Bob, who currently resides in Meyersdale, PA.

Alvin has three children from his first marriage: Gloria, James and Patricia. His second marriage to Lois expanded his family to include six more children: David, Joseph, John, Kenneth, Robin and Daniel Fox, all of whom he loved dearly as his own.

In February of 1952, Alvin enlisted into the Marine Corps to serve his country and was awarded The National Defense Service Medal prior to being honorably discharged. After leaving the Marines he received his license to pilot small aircraft. In September of 1999 Alvin was officially recognized as a life-long member of the Free Masons at Royal Oak Lodge #464.

Alvin enjoyed hunting an fishing, listening to country music and spending time with family and friends. Alvin will be greatly missed by all who had come to know him over the past 87 years.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 3-8 PM.
